Best Laptop Chargers for Windows Laptops

Windows laptop charging divides into two categories: USB-C universal chargers that work with any USB-C PD laptop, and proprietary chargers tied to a specific laptop brand (Microsoft Surface, Dell barrel connector, HP barrel connector). Modern business Windows laptops from Dell, Lenovo, HP, and ASUS increasingly ship with USB-C charging, making universal USB-C chargers more useful than they were five years ago. Older models and gaming laptops still use proprietary connectors that require brand-specific chargers.

We selected these based on charging wattage, compatibility with major Windows laptop brands, build quality, portability for travel, GaN technology (for smaller form factor at high wattage), and safety certifications.

Microsoft Surface 65W Power Supply

Best for: Surface Pro and Surface Laptop users who need an official charger with the proprietary Surface connector

Surface devices use a proprietary magnetic charging connector — not USB-C on most models. The official Microsoft Surface 65W Power Supply is the correct charger for Surface Pro (Gen 5–9) and Surface Laptop (Gen 1–5). It provides 65W via the Surface Connect magnetic port, which also doubles as a docking station connection point. Third-party Surface chargers exist but can cause compatibility warnings in Surface devices. The official charger eliminates compatibility issues.

Key specs: 65W, proprietary Surface Connect magnetic connector, compatible with Surface Pro 5–9, Surface Laptop 1–5, Surface Book 1–2, compact brick design

Caveat: Proprietary connector — only works with Surface devices. Surface Pro X and Surface Pro 9 with 5G support USB-C charging in addition to Surface Connect. Newer Surface models may require a higher wattage charger for optimal charging speed.

Price: Mid-range.

Lenovo 65W USB-C Charger

Best for: ThinkPad and IdeaPad owners who want an official Lenovo USB-C charger with confirmed compatibility

Lenovo’s official 65W USB-C charger is tested and certified for ThinkPad and IdeaPad models that support USB-C charging. Using an official Lenovo charger eliminates firmware warnings that some third-party chargers trigger on ThinkPads. The charger supports USB Power Delivery and works on any USB-C PD-compatible device, not just Lenovo laptops. Compact brick design is suitable for travel.

Key specs: 65W USB-C Power Delivery, compatible with ThinkPad and IdeaPad USB-C models, slim brick design, foldable plug, universal USB-C compatibility

Caveat: Some ThinkPad models require 90W or 100W for full-speed charging under heavy load — 65W will charge but may not maintain battery under processor-intensive tasks on those models. Check your ThinkPad’s rated charger wattage.

Anker Nano II 65W

Best for: Compact GaN travel charger for USB-C Windows laptops — 65W in a form factor smaller than most 30W chargers

The Anker Nano II 65W uses GaN II technology to deliver 65W from a charger that is roughly the size of a standard phone charger — significantly smaller than the 65W brick chargers that ship with most Windows laptops. A single USB-C port provides the full 65W. Suitable for travel and daily carry where size and weight matter. Works with any USB-C PD laptop from Dell, HP, ASUS, Microsoft (USB-C models), and Lenovo. Anker’s ActiveShield temperature management protects against overheating.

Key specs: 65W GaN II, single USB-C port, compact form factor (~1.5 inch cube), foldable prongs, USB-C PD compatible, temperature monitoring, 18-month warranty

Caveat: Single port — cannot charge laptop and a second device simultaneously at full speed. 65W may be insufficient for high-performance laptops that require 90W or 100W. Not compatible with proprietary connectors (Surface Connect, Dell barrel, HP barrel).

Price: Budget to mid-range.

UGREEN 65W USB-C Nexode

Best for: Users who need to charge laptop and phone from one wall plug — dual-port GaN charger

The UGREEN Nexode 65W provides two USB-C ports: when one device is connected, it gets the full 65W. When two devices are connected, the charger splits intelligently — typically 45W to the laptop port and 20W to the second port, covering both laptop and phone charging from one plug. GaN construction keeps the charger compact. Compatible with any USB-C PD laptop. UGREEN builds to consistent safety standards with UL and CE certification.

Key specs: 65W total GaN, USB-C ×2, intelligent power distribution (65W solo / 45W+20W dual), compact design, foldable prongs, UL/CE certified

Caveat: Total wattage is shared — laptop charging speed drops when both ports are in use. Not a replacement for a single 65W charger if you need maximum laptop charging speed at all times.

Price: Budget to mid-range.

Belkin BoostCharge Pro 65W PPS

Best for: USB-C PPS laptop charging with a bundled cable — PPS fast charging for compatible Windows laptops

The Belkin BoostCharge Pro 65W supports PPS (Programmable Power Supply) — a USB-C PD extension that adjusts voltage and current dynamically for more efficient and faster charging on laptops that support PPS (including select Dell XPS, HP Spectre, and Lenovo ThinkPad models). Ships with a USB-C to USB-C cable, which saves a separate cable purchase. Two USB-C ports provide flexibility. Belkin’s Lifetime Connected Equipment Warranty covers connected device damage due to charger failure.

Key specs: 65W USB-C PPS, USB-C ×2, includes USB-C cable, PPS fast charging for compatible laptops, GaN construction, Belkin Connected Equipment Warranty

Caveat: PPS benefit only applies to laptops that explicitly support PPS — standard USB-C PD laptops charge at normal speed. Second port reduces primary port wattage when in use simultaneously.

Price: Mid-range.

How to choose

  • Check your connector first: Surface uses a proprietary magnetic connector. Most gaming laptops use a barrel connector (DC plug). Business laptops from Dell, Lenovo, HP, and ASUS increasingly charge via USB-C. Verify which connector your laptop uses before buying a universal USB-C charger that cannot physically connect to your laptop.
  • Match wattage to your laptop: Ultrabooks and thin laptops typically need 45–65W. Mid-range business laptops need 65–90W. Gaming and creator laptops often need 100–140W or more. Using a lower-wattage charger will charge the laptop, but slowly or not at all under full CPU/GPU load.
  • GaN vs standard: GaN (gallium nitride) chargers deliver the same wattage as standard silicon chargers in a significantly smaller enclosure. If size and travel weight matter, GaN is worth the slight price premium. Performance is identical.
  • Third-party vs OEM: Most quality third-party USB-C chargers from Anker, UGREEN, and Belkin are safe and compatible. For laptops that show firmware warnings with third-party chargers (notably ThinkPads), using an official Lenovo charger avoids the warnings. The warnings are typically cosmetic rather than functional, but they can be distracting.
